————————————————-———————————————————————-

Interview tips :

interview-tips-2

There are, of course, the obvious things that you should do for any job interview.

  • You should dress smartly and be “ready for business.”
  • You should have a copy of your CV and any recent correspondence between us to hand.
  • You should be on time.

In addition to these things that apply to any interview, there are three maxims that we think you may find helpful:

Be prepared

At this stage in your career, you need to prepare for a challenging interview. You will need to be able to articulate your strengths, describe your experience succinctly and to your best advantage, and tell us your career goals. There is no harm in practising beforehand, although anything that sounds over-rehearsed or scripted is unlikely to come across well.

Be proactive

Prepare a list of questions that you can ask your interviewer or interviewers, but keep it short and to the point. In your preparation, you will have thoroughly researched our organization and the specific business unit in which you want to work. You should have specific and intelligent questions that relate directly to the position for which you are applying.

Be yourself

We have an approachable and honest culture. We want and expect to see the real you at interview. That’s what interviews are for, and you wouldn’t want to get a job where you had to pretend to be someone you are not. For our part, we will answer your questions frankly and openly.

Is there any ways to boost your self confidence??

How many times during your growing years did your parents tell you to walk straight or sit up straight? You may have casually dismissed it, or maybe you didn’t really pay attention. As an adult, though, you realize the wisdom of the advice.

Simple practices like these don’t just help you physically but also psychologically. Psychologists say that there are many little ways that can instantly help boost self-confidence.
SC
Here are some easy tips on how you can do just that.

Grooming

The first thing that works for a confident person is his or her personal hygiene. Right from your hair, your face, your body, your fingers, and your skin — keep them clean and well maintained. If you have a body odour problem, take remedial measures (use deodorants and bactericidal soaps).

Check your teeth and get them fixed if there is a problem. Brush everyday twice, if you can, even after meals. You can even pop in a mint after your meals.

Take care of your skin by eating the right food and drinking lots of water. If it needs more care, take help from professionals.

Knowing you look your best is an easy and effective way to help you act your best.

Dress for success

Dressing well and appropriately can do wonders for one’s self esteem. Many of us wear clothes that look nice on the clothes rack but do not necessarily suit our body type. Wear clothes that fit you well. If you are on the healthier side, wear clothes that aren’t too tight yet not loose or baggy, which just adds to the bulk and does not make you look any better.

Dressing well does not mean you need to spend your entire salary investing in designer brands. Choose your clothes wisely — it’s quality not quantity that counts. Pick up a few outfits that make a statement instead of loads of outfits that do nothing for your confidence.

The other thing to do is watch the popular verdict. If most people say pink is your colour and you feel comfortable wearing pink, do it.

Good posture

Good posture has an immediate and lasting impact on your confidence. Do you recollect the time you were at the door, about to face an interview? What did you do instinctively? Didn’t you take a deep breath? By doing that two things happen — your stomach goes in and your head is held high.

Always hold your head high, throw your shoulders back, keep your back straight and walk with confident steps. Practice in the mirror a few times to make sure your doing it right, without looking too stiff.

Walk smart

Do you take small, shuffling steps? Do you fling your arms around when you walk? Stop! You may be doing something sub-consciously that does not really compliment your style.

Be aware of how you walk. Be quick and energetic with a spring in your step. Think of a nice outdoor activity that you like doing, feeling the breeze on your face and letting your heart guide your walk.

If you are still not comfortable, try this age-old trick. Place a big book on your head and try to walk without dropping it. This is a great way to improve posture and gait.

Smile often

To complete the look, make sure to smile. Smile as often as you can and, if you can manage, let a tiny smile hang around the corners of your mouth.

In all your interactions, look people in the eye, greet them and smile. You’ll see the other person transform in front of you.

Be empathic

Your confidence levels rise drastically when you successfully connect with people around you. For that you need to be empathic towards your family, friends and colleagues to begin with. Once you can deal and help other people with their emotions and problems, you immediately increase your influence with your circle of friends, acquaintances and colleagues.

Learn to calm yourself

This is probably the most important factor when it comes to confidence — being able to face every situation calmly. But this does not come naturally to everyone, which is why you need to train yourself.

Find activities that calm you — like talking a walk, listening to music, dancing, talking to your friends, reading, writing, gardening, cooking — any activity that makes you feel happy. Do it once or twice a week or month, depending on the time you have.

Meditation techniques help too.

Empower yourself

Knowledge almost always boosts self-confidence. Empower yourself with knowledge — of your surroundings, of your job, of people, of the world around you. A good grasp of current events helps you strike up meaningful conversation and ensures that you’re not left out.

One of the simplest things to do is read the newspaper, talk to people and be aware and observant.

Keep a soul knick-knack

A soul knick-knack can help you tide over those times when your confidence is tested. It could be your guru’s photo, a gift from a loved one, your lucky charm, or even a photograph of a loved one. This soul knick-knack needs to be something that can bring a smile to your face, specially during testing times.

Find solutions to problems

Do not procrastinate or run away from your problems. The sign of a confident person is that he or she takes the problem head on and finds a solution. If you don’t think you can handle it on your own, there is no shame in seeking help.

Talk about it with friends or colleagues, or write it down while listing out various solutions, pros and cons.

3 Critical Questions Leaders Must Ask: Improve Employee Goal Success

Employees need to know what they can do to be successful and help the organization or company succeed. Goals can provide a line of site for the employee and allow him or her feel that they are making important contributions and are valued. Employees with goals are more committed.

Employee_goal_success

The trouble with not having a goal is that you can spend your life running up and down the field and never score. ~Bill Copeland

Do you want to improve employee goal success? Here are three questions every leader should ask themselves while evaluating employee goals. If anyone of these three questions cannot be answered in the affirmative, then you might want to reconsider the goal.

  1. Is the goal achievable? As leaders we want our employees to succeed. Failing to achieve an impossible goal can be demoralizing to the employee. Once it becomes clear that the goals won’t be achieved; motivation will wane quickly.
  2. Is the goal difficult? This might seem like it is in conflict with whether the goal is achievable, but it is different. The goal must stretch the employee. Successfully stretching employees will naturally improve productivity.
  3. Will the goal move the strategic pendulum? Every employee goal should be linked to a company or team strategy. The employee needs to know how their success affects the organizations success.

What other things might you consider to improve employee goal success?

Looking for a job: You wants versus needs!!

When you’re job searching, it can sometimes seem like you’re in a dysfunctional relationship. It’s always about what the companies want and what you’re willing to compromise to make them happy. Consider this your intervention: You’re in this relationship, too, and it’s time to start asking for what you want.

When evaluating a position, decide what’s on your list of requirements and what items are preferred, but not necessary. This will help you get what you want and increase your chances for long-term career happiness and success.

Career path
Are you moving closer to your dream job? When looking for a job, consider what direction you want to take your career. Doing so can help you narrow down which jobs to consider. Ask yourself: Is this relevant to my educational background, does this get me a step further in my career, or can it open up new doors for me? Is having a career important, or am I looking for a job strictly to pay the bills?

Dress code
Is your inner fashionista a factor in the job you’re seeking? Dress code can have more of an impact on career satisfaction than you may think. Does the position you’re looking for require you to wear a uniform? Will you be expected to wear a suit most of the time? How much of your salary are you willing to spend on work clothes? Consider what you’d prefer to wear, and look for companies that are compatible with your style.

Education
Some companies offer tuition reimbursement and other educational opportunities to their employees, including access to seminars, workshops and certifications. Research the companies that interest you, and find out what they offer. While you’ll typically find more opportunities at larger companies, organizations of any size may provide some degree of training.

Insurance and benefits
Are you on somebody else’s insurance plan, or are you looking for a job with health benefits? Determine which type of insurance you’d prefer and which benefits may not be as important to you. This will help you figure out what questions to ask hiring managers when discussing benefits.

Location
Are you willing to relocate for a great job? Is commuting an option for you? Or are you more interested in staying local? Being more flexible may give you more opportunities in your job search. Also, consider if working from home is an option. Is it realistic, and do you have the self-discipline to work independently?

Salary
Do you have a certain income that you need to make to pay the bills? How flexible are your salary requirements? Although salary negotiations don’t usually happen until after you receive a job offer, keep in mind what kind of budget you have and what your paycheck needs to be.

Travel
Are you looking for a job in which you can travel? Consider how much you’d be willing to travel for a job. Some positions require driving long distances or flying, while others only require working at one location.

Wellness opportunities
Wellness opportunities such as paid gym memberships or bicycles are increasingly being offered to employees to encourage healthy lifestyles and keep insurance costs low. Are you interested in better managing your well-being? Determine whether the companies you’re researching offer wellness opportunities to their employees.

After you decide what you want out of your job, you’ll have a clearer picture of what positions you should be seeking and which companies offer the most relevant benefits. The key to any good relationship is being honest about what you want and working to get it.

Dressing for Success at Work

Company dress codes are a never-ending battle in the working world. Have a look on few here..

Battle No. 1: Employees misinterpret the dress code or they don’t abide by it.

Battle No. 2: Companies have a code in place but don’t enforce it.

Battle No. 3: Companies don’t have a dress code but they still reprimand employees for wearing certain attire. Or,

Battle No. 4: There’s constant objection from certain industries along the lines of, “Why do I have to look nice at work if I don’t see anybody?”

If you’re a sales employee who meets with clients every day, for example, it makes sense to dress professionally. But for the writer who sits in his cube all day and rarely sees the sun, let alone another person, does it really matter what he’s wearing?

If he wants to be promoted, it does. In a new CareerBuilder.com survey, 41 percent of employers said that people who dress better or more professionally tend to be promoted more often than others in their organization.

Where do wardrobes really matter?

Dressing professionally is more important in some industries than it is in others, According to the survey, according to the survey. Financial services is one industry that places the most emphasis on professional work attire. Fifty-five percent of workers in this sector say well-dressed employees are more likely to be promoted than others. An additional 51 percent of sales representatives say the same thing about the likelihood of promotions in their industry.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, only 33 percent of manufacturing employers and 37 percent of IT employers say that professional attire influences whether or not an employee gets promoted.

Employer restrictions

Especially in the warmer months of the year, employees take advantage of more relaxed dress codes. But, professionalism shouldn’t decrease as temperatures rise. How you dress plays a critical role in how others perceive you at work. Dressing professionally in the office, despite the urge to wear a tank top and shorts, will help you project a motivated image to your boss and co-workers.

To many employers’ dismay, traditional dress codes aren’t always enough to keep employees from dressing inappropriately. In order to force employees to dress more professionally, some employers are banning certain items of clothing in order to limit the options workers have when it comes to their work wardrobes.

Sixty-four percent of employers surveyed have banned flip flops, while an additional 49 percent have forbidden mini-skirts. Thirty-eight percent banned sleeveless shirts and 28 percent have prohibited jeans. More than one-third (35 percent) of companies have gone as far as to send employees home for unsuitable work garb.

Here are four tips for dressing professionally on the job:

– Stock your closet — Start with the versatile basics, such as a pair of black pants, a dark pant suit, some button-down collared shirts and a classic pair of dark shoes. Once you have the staples, you can continue to build your wardrobe to give you plenty of professional options.

– Keep it neat and clean  Make sure your pants, shirts and other clothes are ironed, stain-free and in good condition. When your clothes look sloppy, so do you.

– Steer clear of bar attire  Don’t mistake the office for your local watering hole. Leave the slinky shirts, tight pants and cut off t-shirts at home.

– Look the part  Have a client presentation or a meeting with the CEO? Dress for the part, making sure you choose appropriate articles of clothing for your role.

Just as the riskiest financial investment strategy is to have all of your money in one place, the riskiest career management strategy is to have all of your income from one organization unless you are in a critical role and have skills that are difficult to find in the labor market.

To enjoy job security and professional fulfillment in this new employment reality, you should have a “portfolio career” that includes multiple and simultaneous income streams or “career acts.” Career acts can include an eBay business, part-time job, profitable hobby, non-executive board seat, franchise, authored book, affiliate links on your blog, weekend jazz trio, etc.

Here are 10 tips for managing career acts in a portfolio career:

Diversify
Start maximizing your talents to generate broad-based income streams. Some career acts can be slow and steady sources of income, while others can be higher-risk with higher potential reward. Professions such as nursing or teaching science are low-risk sources of guaranteed income, whereas starting a small business has a higher risk, with potential for a much higher reward.

Invest intelligently
To build income-generating career acts, you will need to invest in yourself, your business, your network and the like. You may need, for example, to return to school for a degree or training program, to invest in equipment or supplies, or to attend a conference or some other networking event. Manage the financial risk incurred by being realistic about your talents and abilities and making sure you have the tenacity and effectiveness to take full advantage of your investments.

Actively manage your portfolio
Your career acts will need different investments and have different trajectories for growth. Today’s careers are actively self-managed.

Invest prudently
Start protecting your time and your discretionary spending, as you may need both to start a new career act.

Maintain high ethical standards
Do not add career acts that a reasonable supervisor wouldn’t consider or that would use company time or resources for your private gain. At the same time, remember that you did not take a vow of poverty when you became employed.

Sell high
Many people actively manage how they enter an organization but passively manage their exit, often waiting for a layoff, reorganization or something else to force their departure. If you work for an unsupportive supervisor, have no opportunities for growth or dislike what you are doing, start planning your exit while you still have an income stream.

Know your tolerance for risk
Entrepreneurship is not right for everyone. Find a mix of career acts that do not add anxiety to your life and that align with your talents.

Trust your hunches
Do not let anyone tell you that you lack focus or should get serious about one career. Careers today are moving further away from the traditional 40-hour-per-week employer to more self-directed opportunities for generating income.

Understand the data
Speak with multiple people who occupy any career act you would like to have. There are often different ways to achieve the same career goal. Some ways may take less time and less money but produce the same result.

Seek advice
Often people have a hard time understanding ways they can use their talents and abilities. Speak to trusted friends or advisers who know you well and want to see you succeed about what they see you doing. You will be surprised at how well others can spotlight your talents and give you ideas.

A well-managed portfolio career can provide greater income, personal fulfillment and professional security. What income-generating opportunity can you create for yourself that would use your talents and skills, in a way you would like to work? Make a plan and start growing your amazing portfolio career.

Small poem for Women’s on Women’s Day celebration :)

Dedicating this 2 all Womens of the world..
